Anna enjoyed a long and varied career in the cultural sector, initially as a conservator at Tate Gallery, then as Director of the National Museums of Wales and ultimately Chief Executive of MLA, the Museums Libraries and Archives Council.

Since 1975 she has served on the boards of a number of grant making bodies, both independent and in the public sector.  She chaired the Barrow Cadbury Trust from 1996 to 2006, and remains their Lead Trustee for the Young Adults and Criminal Justice programme. In 2004 she joined the Board of the fledgling Big Lottery Fund, the largest of the lottery distributors, serving as Vice Chair from 2006-2014.

In addition to her role with Barrow Cadbury, Anna is currently a trustee of the Clore Social Leadership programme.  She is also involved with a number of organisations in Bristol where she lives: as Interim Chair of Arnolfini (the contemporary arts centre), a trustee of the Tobacco Factory Theatre Trust, and a non-executive director of Bristol Together, a CIC which trains and employs ex-offenders.
