Ian Hargreaves CBE

ian-hargreavesIan Hargreaves is Professor of Digital Economy at Cardiff University.  Most of his career has been in journalism: roles included Deputy Editor Financial Times; Editor the Independent; Editor the New Statesman and Director of BBC News and Current Affairs.  He has a long association with the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies.  His current work at Cardiff University is focused upon the digital creative economy.  His most recent book is The Creative Citizen Unbound: how social media contribute to democracy, communities and the creative economy. (Policy Press, 2016).

Ian lives, with his family, in Penarth. He is also a board member at National Theatre Wales and the Alacrity Foundation.  He has played advisory roles to the governments of Wales and the UK and to the European Commission and the EU Intellectual Property Office. He is Senior Fellow to the Lisbon Council, a Brussels-based think tank; and a member of the creative economy advisory board of Nesta, the UK innovation charity.
