Theatrical Hires

Both the Donald Gordon Theatre and Weston Studio are available to hire. For information see theatrical production hire

The Donald Gordon Theatre (seating capacity 1900) is a platform for opera, major and medium scale musicals, ballet, dance, comedy and Gala performances, having already hosted a number of world-class musicals, dance events, comedy performances and operas.  It makes an impressive venue for filming your event - so far, events filmed and broadcast from Wales Millennium Centre include The Royal Variety Performance 2005 (ITV), The Keith Barret Show (Tour DVD), Welsh Food Awards, Cymry For The World 2004 (BBC) and The Urdd National Eisteddfod (S4C).

Wales Millennium Centre’s other performance space is the more intimate Weston Studio (200 - 250 seats). The Weston Studio is an adaptable venue that can suit small scale drama, dance, music and comedy, with bleacher seating making it easy to configure the venue to your requirements, whatever the layout.

Wales Millennium Centre is also a home and workplace for eight of Wales’ most prestigious, exciting cultural organizations, including the Welsh National Opera, Hijinx theatre and National Dance Company Wales.  The building includes major rehearsal and orchestral facilities for WNO, dance studios for NDCWales, including The Blue Room performance space in the Dance House (80 - 100 seats) controlled by NDCWales. The Urdd Gobaith Cymru is also based within the Centre and houses a 140-bed hostel, as well as performance and teaching space for young people, and office and technical accommodation for other resident organisations. The Urdd Hall has 153 seats and is controlled by the Urdd.

Visiting Companies need to be aware of, and compliant with, our policies with regard to ticketing and Welsh Language Use. Please contact the Arts and Audience Development Department for more information.

Rehearsal opportunities

Rehearsal rooms can be hired for rehearsals to both amateur and professional companies. We have limited access to the main rehearsal rooms at the Centre but you can contact fran.jones@wmc.org.uk  for costs and availability.

The function rooms are also available at evenings and weekends at a reduced cost to be used as rehearsal spaces. They are ideal spaces for play read throughs, drama rehearsals or devising sessions.
