Forest walk transports Wales Millennium Centre into Christmas wonderland

If you haven't yet visited Cardiff Bay this month, then wrap up warm and wander down for a wonderful winter walk.  Wales Millennium Centre has adorned the outdoor area with an array of sparkling spruces, setting the scene perfectly for visitors seeking a truly festive experience.

The 180 rooted firs have come directly from a farm in the Gower and certainly create a festive front to Wales' national arts venue this Christmas. Not only can visitors enjoy the forest walk (and perhaps a mulled wine or two!), but the snow-blower and Centre's Santa's Grotto are also proving popular. Grotto entry is free and is open on weekends and every day between 19 - 23 December, from 10.30am - 2.30pm and 4pm - 5pm.

The trees will be gloriously glimmering until early January when members of the local community, including schools, groups or individuals are invited to 'select a spruce' when the walkway closes in the New Year.

Managing Director Mathew Milsom says, "We wanted to do something really special this year to make the Centre look festive and feel magical.  We also wanted to offer the opportunity for people to enjoy the beautiful trees long into the future so we are welcoming individuals, community groups and schools to apply for a free tree to nurture throughout 2017 and beyond.  We are committed to sustainability at the Centre and this is one way to ensure all our projects have a legacy."

Those interested in a free tree should contact info@wmc.org.uk with name, telephone and email address. Trees are approximately 4 - 5ft high, weigh in the region of 25kg including its container and must be collected by 4 January.

If the trees aren't enough to get you tingling, the Centre is also hosting a Carol Concert on 21 December at 6pm. Everyone is welcome to join the sing-a-long celebrations of Christmas with City Voices Cardiff and some festive treats including mince pies and mulled wine.
