‘Ignite’ is Dance Blast’s highly successful youth dance and disability dance development project commissioning professional choreographers to create new dance works for Monmouthshire Youth Dance Company (MYDC) and Monmouthshire Connected Com-pany (MCDC).

Each year members of MYDC commission 2 professional choreographers to create new dance works with them. They lead the whole process from shortlisting and auditioning candidates to making the final decision on which choreographers to commission. Each commissioned choreographer follows a very different process. This years choreographers are Gwyn Emberton, a multi award-winning choreographer and dancer from Wales, and the artistic director of Gwyn Emberton Dance and international dance artist Christina Coleman an American, based in Kosovo.

We are delighted that this year for the first time MCDC have followed the same process and commissioned a choreographer to work with them creating a new integrated piece. The group commissioned Karol Cysewski who has worked with companies including National Dance Company Wales and Polish Dance Theatre.

The evening also includes choreography by the youth company members who have created 2 new pieces and 2 pieces by our resident MYDC dance artists Kim Noble and Beth Powesland. MCDC will also perform a new piece created by resident tutors Emily Pritchard and Kathy Young.

The performance will be an explosion of creativity and energy that  promises to delight and enthral. A moving evening of dance not to be missed!

The project is funded by the Arts Council of Wales.
