Radio Platfform is our youth-led radio station supporting young people to produce and present their own programmes that are broadcast online and available as podcasts.

Listen live

The platfform gives young people the chance to have their voices heard through their own radio programmes whilst creating great content and developing key broadcast skills in the process.

As well as receiving accredited training you'll also receive hands-on experience with amazing mentors from within the broadcast media.

Anyone aged between 14-25-years-old can join the course. No previous radio experience is necessary.

Taster sessions

We also offer one-off taster sessions and bespoke workshops to groups that give people an insight into what our projects deliver and encourage people to have a go.

A fully accredited six week course is delivered by our in house studio manager in collaboration with ProMo Cymru and is split into two-hour sessions, once a week during the evenings between 6-8pm.

Trainees are taught everything they need to know about producing a radio programme, from presenting and producing, to script writing and editing as well as interview techniques other important career skills.

At the end of each course a graduation ceremony is held by the students to celebrate their achievements and showcase their own work from course.

Producing and presenting

After graduating, participants can choose to follow alternative learning routes or continue to work with us at Radio Plafform, presenting and producing their own programmes.

Our Programmes

Our current radio shows feature drum and bass, hip-hop and grime with plenty of youth culture including politics, the environment, the latest film releases, music news and reviews.

Trainees who stay with Radio Platfform receive access to wider development opportunities such as joining the steering committee, managing the social media accounts, applying for internships, delivering their own workshops and furthering their careers with more in-depth training courses.

Presenters also get to cover festivals and major events in and around the Centre such as Festival of Voice, Breakin’ The Bay, Follyfest and Boomtown.

Radio Platfform is currently developing further accreditation opportunities.

Our Partners

The Radio Platfform internships are funded by The Welsh Broadcasting Trust and The Hobson Charity.

We also work closely with Grassroots, a Cardiff-based charity working with young people in South Wales aged 16-15 years.

Over the years we've developed a great relationship with BBC Wales DJ Bethan Elfyn who promotes Welsh music through her show and involvement with the Horizons music scheme.

Bethan is an avid fan of Radio Platfform and has delivered sessions and tours of the BBC Radio Studios to our trainees and appeared in our promotional campaigns.

Our team also does regular exchange visits with other youth-led radio stations such as Roundhouse Radio and Reprezent Radio.

Radio Cardiff, the local community radio provides training in all aspects of studio and journalism for radio and offers broadcast opportunities.

Roundhouse Radio in Camden has been running a successful radio broadcast programme for young people for years with a robust and inspirational model that’s successfully forged the careers of many young people in the industry.

We also work with other youth organisations and deliver training sessions to groups such as the Foster Network and Menter Caerdydd.
