Witness an exclusive tribute to the iconic Joni Mitchell as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales conducted by Anthony Gabriele and acclaimed vocalists Charlotte Church, Laura Mvula, ESKA, Georgia Ruth, and Olivia Chaney join forces to bring the first ever UK live performance of Vince Mendoza’s original orchestrations of songs from acclaimed albums Both Sides Now and Travelogue to Llais.
The evening features fully orchestrated masterpieces from Both Sides Now and Travelogue, celebrating Joni Mitchell's enduring influence on contemporary music and her role as a visionary artist and activist.
The album Both Sides Now released in 2000, was conceived as a song cycle documenting a relationship from initial flirtation to optimistic consummation, ending in disillusionment and ironic despair, and finally the philosophical overview of acceptance and the probability of the cycle repeating itself. Double album Travelogue (2002) also features Mendoza’s lush arrangements to Mitchell’s original songs .
This special concert also features the guest singers performing their own interpretations of a selection Joni repertoire from a variety albums spanning her career.
