The community team at Wales Millennium Centre strive to make sure that those who are most marginalised in society have an opportunity to be creative in our spaces, whether this is leading events, showcasing artworks or running workshops.
Over the last few years, we have run a series of callouts that pay people to do a number of these things. All the callouts are voted on by those who apply to make sure that those who are chosen are done so democratically and without fear of judgement.
We feel that it is important to showcase all the wonderful talent within our community, prioritise those least platformed and create a safe space where everyone is welcome and celebrated.
Here is one of our past callouts: Public Art Call Out: Winter | Wales Millennium Centre.

This year we have made a slight change and we are offering groups and individuals a chance to come and meet the team online or in person so we can support you with developing your idea and envisioning it in the space. We will also be running voting events in person (online engagement will be supported for those who cannot attend) so all ideas can be pitched and voted on in one day.
In this callout, we are focusing on workshops, one exhibition and one cultural celebration. We will be running further callouts for three further exhibitions in Ffwrnais, additional cultural celebrations – including one on 30 November to celebrate the winter solstice – and numerous others.
If you have an established idea and you don’t need support, please send us any links to your work and one PowerPoint slide explaining your idea/pitch and we’ll book you in for the voting event which will take place on 30 April 2025.
The voting event will take place in Cabaret where we will present your slide to the group, and you are welcome to say a few words before the vote takes place. If you cannot attend, we will happily take votes via email. This democratic model has been designed over a number of years to make sure people have ownership, shared responsibility and are supported with democratic approaches that are accessible and transparent. For more information see Budgeting - Shared Future.
For all commissions, we welcome applications from artists, individuals, community groups and arts organisations who are Welsh or Wales-based.
