Public Art Call Out

Calling all artists!

Your chance to display public art at Ffwrnais in Wales Millennium Centre

We are inviting applications from Wales-based artists, community groups and/or arts organisations to create a hanging exhibition for our new café bar Ffwrnais.

This summer we will be highlighting the climate crisis by creating and sharing multiple works, and your public art exhibition will be a part of this, showing your take on climate change.

The hanging space in Ffwrnais has recently been installed and is perfect for framed images, canvas or photography. Our current exhibition is Faadi, a collaboration with Al Naeem, Hayaat Women Trust and Young Queens.

We are looking for public art that can inspire discussion, raise awareness of the climate crisis and act as a response to climate change or a call to action for people to engage more.

This call out is part of our Participatory Budgeting Programme where those who apply vote on each other’s pieces and the winner will receive the commission, so please make sure that you are happy with this before you send your application. This project is part of our community programme, so it is rooted in co-design and co-creation. We are working towards handing decisions over to the communities we work with, rather than being involved ourselves. This process is a work in progress; all feedback is appreciated so that we can adapt and evolve.

You can learn more about our community team and their work HERE.

Previous exhibitions

We have already held four public art exhibitions: one for International Women’s Day, one in response to Black Lives Matter, one to design a Garden Guardian and Azadi, a large-scale winter installation designed by Naz Syed of Ziba Creative.

How to apply

To apply for this opportunity please send a written (no more than a page of A4), video or audio description of your artwork with a link to your social media profiles or to information about the work that you do. This will be shared with other applicants so please make sure you are happy with this or contact us if you would like to discuss this further.

We welcome applications from artists, community groups and arts organisations.

DEADLINE: Friday 9 June.

The fee

We have £1000 available; £300 is for the get in and get out, worked out as £150 per day. The remainder of the fee is to be used for framing, hanging or creating the artwork.

We are happy to discuss budget queries. Please be assured we want to make sure you are paid for your time and contribution to this exhibition.

If you would like to discuss anything or find out more, please email community@wmc.org.uk
