Welsh National Opera's (WNO) FREEDOM season runs from 3-22 June 2019, and explores the theme of human rights through a series of semi-staged productions, talks, discussions, debates, exhibitions and digital experiences.
WNO have partnered with organisations including Amnesty International and Welsh Refugee Council to look at the subjects raised in the opera performances, and give audiences the opportunity to find out more about the topics in more detail.
Throughout our foyers you'll find both physical and digital exhibitions with talks, debates and discussions taking place across Cardiff throughout June.
There's also host of performances taking place too, including Gian Carlo Menotti’s 1950 work 'The Consul' and the double-bill of 'The Prisoner' and 'Fidelio Act II' in collaboration with BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
The season showcases how the stories in opera are relevant to today's society and aims to encourage everyone to think a little bit more about the humans behind the headlines we see every day.
