Wales Millennium Centre is inviting audiences to step inside the human body this summer with Evolver - a breathtaking immersive experience from internationally acclaimed artist collective Marshmallow Laser Feast, narrated by Academy Award-winning actor Cate Blanchett.

Opening on 23 July, Evolver is a major exhibition in Wales Millennium Centre's summer Annwn Immersive programme, which brings a series of internationally acclaimed experiences - from large scale multisensory works to a VR cinema - to Cardiff.

Marshmallow Laser Feast (MLF) is one of the world's leading immersive artist studios, creating ambitious works that combine art, science and emerging technology. Working across immersive installation, extended reality (XR), film and performance, they construct multisensory environments and artworks in which data becomes sensorial, ecological systems become intimate and the invisible processes that sustain life are made perceptible. Their installations have been experienced by audiences across the globe, from major museums and galleries to international festivals including Venice Biennale and Tribeca Festival, and are celebrated for transforming complex scientific ideas into extraordinary sensory experiences.

Running from 23 July until 30 August, Evolver takes audiences on an extraordinary journey through the human body. Guided by the voice of Academy Award-winning actor Cate Blanchett, visitors follow a single breath as it travels through branching lungs, blood vessels and cells, revealing the invisible connections between our bodies and the natural world.

Blending immersive projection, spatial sound, meditation, science and storytelling, the experience has been executive produced by acclaimed filmmakers Edward R. Pressman and Terrence Malick, with a soundtrack featuring music by Jonny Greenwood, Meredith Monk, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Howard Skempton and Jon Hopkins.

Rather than simply observing the body, audiences are invited to experience it from within, creating a meditative, awe-inspiring exploration of breath, consciousness and our relationship with the living world.

Eleanor (Nell) Whitley, Managing Director of Marshmallow Laser Feast, said: “We are delighted to be presenting Evolver at Wales Millennium Centre and to be part of their growing investment in immersive storytelling. Evolver invites audiences to journey beneath the skin, to step inside the human body and experience, firsthand, how breath connects us all. Wales has a deep tradition of connecting people to the natural world through the arts, and we hope Cardiff audiences leave this exhibition feeling that connection more vividly than ever."

David Massey, Senior Producer, Creative Technology and Storytelling, Wales Millennium Centre, said: "Marshmallow Laser Feast are among the world's most exciting immersive artists, combining innovative technology with powerful storytelling to create truly unforgettable experiences. We're thrilled to bring Evolver to Cardiff as a significant exhibition in our summer programme.

"Evolver invites audiences to slow down, see the world differently and reconnect with themselves, each other and the natural world. It's exactly the kind of ambitious, internationally acclaimed work we're committed to bringing to Wales as we continue building our reputation as a destination for new forms of storytelling."
