Meet the Cast: The Boy with Two Hearts

Meet the cast of our stage adaptation of The Boy with Two Hearts – a story of hope, from Afghanistan to Wales.

Written by Hamed Amiri, and based on his family’s extraordinary escape from Afghanistan, we’re delighted to welcome an incredible ensemble of six performers as the cast of The Boy with Two Hearts.

As featured on BBC Radio 4’s Book of the Week, The Boy with Two Hearts has been adapted for the stage by Phil Porter, in collaboration with brothers Hamed and Hessam Amiri.

The Amiri family are living in Cardiff and are closely involved in this new Wales Millennium Centre production.

Farshid Rokey – Hamed

Farshid Rokey

Farshid plays Hamed Amiri, the writer of The Boy with Two Hearts and the middle son of the Amiri family. Farshid has worked extensively across film, TV and theatre, including with the National Theatre, Birmingham Rep and Bristol Old Vic.

Ahmad Sakhi – Hussein

Ahmad Sakhi

Ahmad plays the eldest Amiri brother, Hussein, whose heart condition made the family’s journey to the UK all the more critical. Ahmad has starred alongside Orlando Bloom and Scott Eastwood in Amazon’s The Outpost (2019).

Shamail Ali – Hessam

Shamail Ali

Shamail plays the youngest Amiri brother, Hessam, who also collaborated on this new stage adaptation. Shamail has worked across theatre and TV, including Casualty (BBC), Invasion (Apple TV) and Homeland (Showtime/Netflix).

Géhane Strehler – Fariba

Géhane Strehler

Géhane plays the boys’ mother, Fariba, whose speech about freedom for Afghan women angered local Taliban leaders, forcing their escape from Herat. Géhane trained at the Guildford School of Acting and has worked extensively across theatre, TV, film and radio, in both the UK and the US.

Dana Haqjoo - Mohammed

Dana Haqjoo

Dana plays the boys’ spirited father, Mohammed. Dana has worked across theatre, TV, film and radio, including starring in ITV’s The Ipcress File earlier this year.

Elaha Soroor – Co-Composer & Singer

Elaha Soroor

The five Amiri family members will be joined live on stage by composer and singer, Elaha Soroor. Winner of Songlines Magazine Newcomer Award 2020 and singer in English National Ballet’s Giselle, Elaha’s music will add an extra powerful layer to the Amiri family’s extraordinary story.

The Boy with Two Hearts is a Wales Millennium Centre production by Hamed & Hessam Amiri, adapted for the stage by Phil Porter.
