Tafwyl Highlights

This weekend (21 - 23 June) Tafwyl comes to Cardiff Castle. Have you ever been? It’s Cardiff’s free annual Welsh language arts and culture festival.

A lovely opportunity to relax in the sunshine with food, drink and live music (let’s keep our fingers crossed for the sunshine). We’re looking forward to this year’s Tafwyl, especially as some of the artists we support will be performing there.

The UnderCroft space will provide a stage for Connie Orff on Sunday afternoon at 5pm. We’ve been working with Connie for some time, and love watching her perform.

She is our very favourite bilingual drag artist, who has been delighting audiences at the Centre for some time. Connie was the first hostess of our popular Supper Clwb earlier this month at Ffresh bar and kitchen.

She’s also a mainstay of our cabaret programme and was one of the hosts of Pride Cymru’s main stage last year. Her performance will provide the perfect Sunday afternoon tonic.

Also in the UnderCroft at 6pm on Sunday, Carys Eleri will be presenting a reading of her new Welsh-language version of Lovecraft (Not the Sex Shop in Cardiff).

Carys approached us with her idea for Lovecraft around two years ago, and since then this hugely popular show has been performed at the Centre and at Adelaide Fringe Festival. It will also appear at Edinburgh Fringe this August.

Keep an eye out for more exciting Lovecraft news in the coming weeks...

Many of our friends will be performing on the various Tafwyl stages, including those who’ve performed at the Centre at various events including Festival of Voice.

Gwenno will be headlining the main stage on Friday at 9pm, and on Saturday we’ll be retreating to the cosy Y Sgubor to catch gorgeous folk tunes courtesy of The Gentle Good at 4pm and the fabulous Cabarela at 6pm.

Did you come to the Urdd National Eisteddfod recently? Some of the artists who appeared at the Eisteddfod will also be performing at Tafwyl, including band of the moment, Gwilym.

We’re also looking forward to seeing friends and members of staff in the crowds and on the stage, including a member of our Creative Learning team, Heledd Watkins who’ll be performing with her band HMS Morris in Y Sgubor on Saturday at 7pm, and will also be speaking at ‘Dangos a Dweud’ (a show and tell) by Creative Cardiff on Saturday.

So much to enjoy, and all for free. See details and the full schedule for the weekend here.
