Wales Millennium Centre’s second musical takes place in Cardiff Docks in the early 1900s, where extreme poverty meets supreme wealth and coal is king.

In this co-production with Cape Town Opera, we brought Tiger Bay roaring to life on the big stage.

Following a young woman’s determination to follow her heart Tiger Bay is transported to the notorious public houses and alleyways of the city’s underworld.

This unique Welsh production unravels Cardiff’s untold story at this extraordinary turning point in history.

Its cast full of international and local talents included John Owen Jones as the Marquess of Bute and local star, Vikki Beb taking the lead role.

With book and lyrics by Michael Williams and an original score from Welsh composer Daf James this rousing production was created by Wales Millennium Centre in association with Cape Town Opera.

Tiger Bay The Musical premiered in Artscape Opera House in Cape Town in October 2017 before making its way to the Donald Gordon stage.
