Behind closed doors - July

The summer is flying by but we're still keeping busy behind closed doors. Here's what we've been up to in July 2020...

We kicked off July by lighting up the building in red on July 6 as part of the #LIGHTITINRED campaign, to show our support and help draw attention to the challenges being faced by live performance and entertainment venues across the UK.

We also welcomed the UK Government's promise of a support package for the arts with £59m being invested in Wales. Mat Milsom shared his thoughts in our blog.

As part of our commitment to building a more diverse workforce and programme for the future we also published our Diversity Statement, recognising our own organisational failings and laying the foundations for a radical, new, and more inclusive arts sector.

Our Creative Learning Producer, Jason Camilleri reflected on his career in the arts as a Welsh, black man and asked the question: Are the arts in Wales inherently racist?

9 July saw the return of the Cardiff Life Awards albeit in a digital format and were honoured to be finalists in both the Arts and Welsh Language categories. We didn't win but congratulations to everyone who took part and made it such a successful online event!

For this year's World Youth Day some of our Radio Platfform presenters produced a series of video shorts highlighting the skills they've learned since taking our radio training courses - from technical knowledge to important life skills.

We've got more online radio production courses coming up in August including how to record radio programmes from your home so follow Radio Platfform on Twitter for updates.

There are loads of great shows and interviews to listen again to on Radio Platfform's Mix Cloud including interviews with singer, songwriter and creator of hit musicals, Mal Pope and BBC Wales TV and Radio presenter, Bethan Rhys Roberts.

Our ticket office team have been working hard from home and we've updated all our show information so you can now find all the cancelled and rescheduled show information here.

Our ticket office closed on 1 August 2020 so we're no longer be able to reply to any emails until we reopen in 2021. There's lots of new information in our FAQ section too.

And finally this month, we’re asking artists and community groups to draw inspiration from the Black Lives Matter movement to create an inspirational piece of public art to be displayed on our external fence by Bute Place. There’s a £500 fee, and the winning bid is decided on by the applicants themselves. Apply now via our blog.

That's it for July and don't forget to follow us on social media for all the latest updates.

Many of the activities we're still able to carry out are a direct result of your kind donations, membership renewals and grant funding.

We'd also like to thank the Arts Council of WalesMoondance Foundation and Garfield Weston,  Paul Hamlyn FoundationThe Clive and Sylvia Richards Charity and The Simon Gibson Charitable Trust for allowing us to continue supporting the creative talent, young people and communities that need creativity now, more than ever.

Help us to keep our creative and community work going

There are lots of ways you can support us
