Designing a Garden Guardian

Gardens can be magical and mysterious places where imaginations run wild! But the natural world also needs help and protection too, whether that's creating space for nature or speaking up to preserve it.

What if we each had a magical Garden Guardian to lend us a hand?

During the Easter holidays, we held a series of workshops where children could come along and design their very own ‘Garden Guardian’ with the chance of their design being turned into a giant inflatable that will guard our Glanfa Garden this summer.

The winning design was created by 10-year-old Jimmy Ling whose rainbow-coloured guardian called Raintree will now be brought to life by pioneering inflatable design company Designs in Air.

“My Garden Guardian Raintree is a rainbow-coloured blob with two arms and it has raindrops on it. I came up with him just by using my imagination.”

Jimmy recently met up with Luke Egan from Designs in Air to get Raintree “inflatable ready”, adding an extra arm and more colour to his original design.

Designs in Air are now hard at work creating the giant inflatable in their workshop ready for the opening of our Garden.

Come and explore our garden and meet Raintree this summer from 26 July to 2 September.
