Learning the ropes online with Radio Platfform

As many of you may know, since our building closed, the Radio Platfform family have been hard at work keeping the station alive.

Unable to come into our station, our staff and amazing group of presenters have been adapting to these times and making shows from home, with over 200 new shows having been made in 2020!

Alongside our broadcasting, we’ve been bringing our outreach work online, to collaborate with groups and deliver digital workshops across the country.

Now, following the success of the first ever online batch of our accredited training last year, we’re launching our next online course to kick off 2021.

Edward Lee

Fully accredited by ProMo Cymru and ran in cooperation with them, our free five-week training course kicks off online on Monday, 1 February.

The course will be run through a weekly Zoom call from 4.30pm – 6.30pm each Monday from 1 Feb through to 1 March.

It's completely free for all participants. All you need is an internet connection and a device to access Zoom on. For this edition of our course, we're collaborating with Together Stronger, the partnership between ourselves and Sparc Valleys Kids, with this course being available to young people aged 11-25 from the Valleys.

Online training

While our course starting on 1 February is filling up quickly, we’re aiming to launch further batches of our accredited course throughout the year, both Valleys-focussed editions as well as open-callouts.

To stay in the loop, keep an eye on our TwitterFacebook and Instagram for more announcements throughout the year.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THE TRAINING

We’ll be covering a lot in the training, from showing you the ropes in planning, recording and editing radio shows and podcasts from your own home, to training you up to deliver great interviews and produce top-notch audio journalism.

At the end of the training we’ll have provided you with the knowledge and skills to start making content from home, and we’ll continue to support you to add your unique voice to our broadcasts and join the Radio Platfform family.

So whether you’re a die-hard fan of radio and podcasts, someone who’s intrigued by what the medium can offer, or looking to gain new skills, there’s a lot to get out of the course.

After every Monday training session, we’ll also be hosting short drop-in sessions over Zoom to offer you some individual help and advice along the way.

Both these sessions, and guest chats in the training by other Radio Platfform presenters and staff members, will give us the chance to get to know you better, and for you to learn more about the sheer breadth of content and opportunities here at the station.

We’re here to learn more about your interests and passions, listen to what you’d like to get out of the course, and tailor what we do to give you a boost in your journey. Long story short, we’re here to help.

We’ve broadcast a lot of content in our life so far as a station, from music shows, to interviews, Welsh language shows, audio plays, mini-shows, and podcasts from politics to Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying and everything in between!

If you’d like to gain the skills and knowledge to join us, if you’d like to produce or present audio content, and if you’d like to get support from a great group of young people, then we’re waiting for you.

To sign up to our training course, or for any queries, drop an email to radioplatfform@wmc.org.uk and to listen to what our presenters get up to, check out our live feed and our Mixcloud page.
