Proud to support Pride

Proud to support Pride

We're really proud to be supporting Pride Cymru again this year, and it's shaping up to be a scorcher with sunny skies, top acts and an expected 50,000 people hitting the rainbow-filled streets of Cardiff.

You can check out the full festival lineup here.

As the home for the arts in Wales; through our staff, our shows and our commitment to equality and diversity, we recognise the importance of celebrating this event, dedicated to diversity and LGBT+ this Bank Holiday weekend.

From working with and developing artists such as Connie Orff on her Performances for the Curious shows and Supper Clwb Drag nights to previous shows such as Le Gateau Chocolat's Icons, Seayoncé and Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo or blogging with Dr Bev Ballcrusher - we're dedicated to programming diverse pieces of work that celebrate everyone.

"We want WMC to be a space where LGBT+ artists, at any level of their career, feel welcomed and heard. From programming national work from queer artists like Milk Presents’ Bullish that puts the trans experience centre stage, to giving Iris the opportunity to present staged work by local LGBT+ artists for the first time - we understand the importance of having yourself and your experiences seen on stage."

Lord Hicks – Sod’s Law

In this musical romp through queer history and described as “a wonderfully charming little show” by Broadway Baby, cabaret star Lord Hicks recounts the laws, legends and liaisons that have shaped what it is to be gay from the perspective of a man who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and educated on the mean streets of Soho.

Krishna Istha – Beast

In this stand-up comedy by Krishna Istha, audiences will be given a refreshingly funny look at the transgender world. Directed by Zoe Coombs Marr who won Best show at Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2016, this testosterone-fuelled comedy isn’t what you think…

Connie Orff: A Christmas Con

The legend of Connie Orff is back with this Christmas to help you LA LA LA ‘til your belly hurts! This drag queen is ready for her stage, the question is, are you ready to be entertained?

Priscilla Queen of the Desert

Featuring a hit soundtrack of dance-floor classics, this iconic musical is a heart-warming story of self-discovery, sassiness and acceptance – the perfect show to see to celebrate Pride. With more glitter than every before, you simply won’t be able to resist these gorgeous drag queens!

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

Jamie New is sixteen and is going to be a star. Through this hilarious, up-beat and moving smash-hit musical, Jamie New takes audiences on a true story of what it means to be different, and what drag queens are all about. Be a Work of Art and stand in the Spotlight as you shine in what makes you who you are.

"As a queer programmer and producer, myself, it makes me proud to know that sharing diverse work is a priority for our team, and that we all understand that the most interesting stories often come from those who don’t always have the space to share them."
