Tŷ Cerdd has a national and international remit and is strategically significant in promoting and celebrating the development of Welsh music.
The charity aims to:
- to bring the music of Wales to audiences around the world.
- Protect the legacy of Welsh music of the past, to nurture Welsh music of the present,
and drive the development of new composition. - Support professionals and non-professionals, performers and audiences, to perform, compose and experience Welsh music.
Working in the professional sector
Tŷ Cerdd works across Wales, with composers, performers and organisations. They have an in-house recording studio, record label - Tŷ Cerdd Records - and publishing imprint, a hire library and a collection of Welsh music.
They also have a valuable connection with the National Library of Wales (NLW), which holds the Tŷ Cerdd archive.
NLW are digitising important works from the collection and manuscripts are available to view at discoverwelshmusic.com with new performing editions available on the Tŷ Cerdd online shop.
Working in the non-professional sector
Tŷ Cerdd have a membership of societies and groups from across Wales who receive expertise and promotional support.
Groups also have help connecting to composers and audiences and a range of other services such as hire library, advice, discount packages and programme notes.
Funding
The charity administer five strands of Lottery funding for the Arts Council of Wales in order to enable a range of work in communities and to support the commissioning of Wales-based composers.
