Winter Afternoon

10 December 2019, 2pm

BBC Hoddinott Hall

‘Seasonal’ events in December usually mean Christmas – with all the bells and whistles. This ‘Winter Afternoon’ is more directly seasonal, taking us to the chilly snowscapes of Russia, as heard through the musical imaginations of Tchaikovsky and the heir to his high Russian romanticism, Alexander Glazunov.

BBC Radio 3 New Generations Artist Anastasia Kobekina joins London-based Hungarian conductor, Gergely Madaras, for Tchaikovsky’s ever-popular Rococo Variations.

Artists
Conductor: Gergely Madaras
Cello: Anastasia Kobekina

Repertoire
Glazunov: ‘Winter’ from The Seasons
Tchaikovsky: Variations on a Rococo Theme
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 1 ‘Winter Dreams’

Please note that all BBC NOW concerts are recorded live for BBC Radio broadcast.

Patrons are encouraged to bring along children and take advantage of Family Tickets, but please be aware that any noise can be picked up on the broadcast.

No content is unsuitable for children, but there may be extended periods of loud music.

BBC NOW concerts are generally suitable for ages 7+, but parents will be the best judge of whether their children are able to sit quietly for a long time.

We would also advise taking an aisle seat so they can exit easily if needed.
