Come and join us for a programme of family friendly workshops running throughout August in the build up to Butetown Carnival 2021.
All equipment and materials needed will be provided so 'Let's get together and feel alright'!

Printing and making creatures from myth and legend
3 August, 1 - 3pm: Have a go at printing textures for your creature creations from recycled materials. Then cut them out and mount them on card for you to take home. This workshop is for all ages.
Make a Venetian Mask
5 August, 1pm - 4pm: Come and create your own venetian style mask – then decorate with lace, sequins, feathers and more. This workshop is for all ages.
Inspiration From Nature: Create Your Own Mini Illustrated Book
6 August, 1pm - 3pm: Have a go at making and illustrating a little book. We will be printing from leaves and filling the pages with our stories inspired by the magic of nature: Fairies, Elves, Woodland Creatures and many more. This workshop is for all ages.

Create a Magical Mask
10 August, 1pm - 3pm: Make and decorate a magical mythical creature mask using recycled materials. This workshop is for children aged 5 -10 years.
Cardboard Animals
11 August, 1pm - 4pm: Create a cardboard animal, from snakes to dragonflies – wherever your imagination takes you! Work together as a family on your creation. This workshop is for all ages.
Carnival Jazz Dance – Preseli Room
14 August, 11 - 12pm: Afro-Brazilian Dance workshop. Please wear soft dance shoes, or you can dance barefoot. This workshop is for children aged 7 - 13 years.

Stitch a Patch
17 August, 1pm - 2.30pm: Using mostly felt and embroidery threads, stitch a word(s) or symbol on to felt. Take your patch home and sew it on to a jacket, or maybe a bag! This workshop is for children aged 10 years - adult.
Design a Carnival Character
18 August, 1pm - 3pm: Come and have a look at images of carnival characters, then sketch your ideas before developing your character into another medium, e.g. paint, plasticine, collage, cardboard.
You'll then create small, miniature versions of a full-scale character to take home with you. This workshop is for all ages.

Circus Skills
24 August, 1pm - 2pm: Come and have fun with flowerpot stilts, learn how to spin plates and hula hoop! This workshop is for children aged 5 - 10 years

25 August, 1pm - 2.30pm: Make your own poi using tights, food bags and sawdust. Once made, you’ll learn a few simple moves. This workshop is for 10 years to teens.
Carnival Contemporary Dance / Playing Mas – Preseli Room
28 August, 11 - 12pm: Come and learn the carnival tradition of ‘Playing Mas’! Bring an item you’d like to dance with – be it a prop or an item of clothing – then learn how to explore this item via contemporary dance and bring your carnival persona to life. This workshop is for children aged 7 - 13 years.
