Curated by Reverend Owen James, Wales Millennium Centre Chaplain, and Keith Murrell, Butetown Arts and Culture Association.
We would like to welcome you to the Glanfa for a celebration of Christmas on Sunday 15 December. The parade will begin at 5pm followed by carols, performances, food and Christmas cheer.
The parade will be led by Butetown Arts and Culture Association who will be creating a new performance just for the event.
The parade performance will draw inspiration from a Jamaican Junkanoo masked pantomime, which, in turn, has been influenced by West African and European traditions. For instance, Junkanoo incorporates archetype characters like 'Horsehead,' reminiscent of the Mari Lwyd tradition in Wales. The ensemble will consist of approximately 12 dancers, drummers and other musicians, all adorned in newly commissioned costumes for the performance.
Please bring a lantern to join us on a beautiful journey through the Oval Basin, up to the Norwegian Church and back before enjoying refreshments and musical performances by Oasis One World Choir, Pantasia and Quaynotes Cardiff to celebrate Christmas.
If you are unable to make a lantern, we will be running workshops at Wales Millennium Centre from 4pm on the day.
Start time: 5pm
Lantern workshops from 4pm
Free, but ticketed.
