You are invited to our Next Up Academy Immersion Day!

We have been working in partnership with Fio to develop a day to celebrate hip-hop theatre. 

The Next Up Immersion Day will allow young people from invited organisations to immerse themselves in hip-hop theatre, whilst giving the participants from the Next Up Academy an opportunity to share and perform their work. Attendees will get a taste of our process so far by engaging in a day of skill-based workshops with industry professionals exploring different elements of hip-hop including breakdance, DJing and rap.

Additionally, there will be a writing and performance workshop where the invited young people will each write their own bars and be supported in staging them. They will then perform within the showcase itself (audience/participant involvement). By structuring the day to include a mix of workshops and performances, we hope to also foster a wider interest in the Next Up Academy and give existing members the platform to demonstrate their creative development. 

The showcase itself will be approximately a 20-minute performance piece in the Weston Studio, sharing a collection of scenes, raps, music, choreography and artwork created by the Next Up Academy. The aim is to reflect the enthusiasm and want for hip-hop theatre that has been present during Next Up sessions and to offer a snapshot of what could grow into a large-scale production. After the sharing, Larynx Entertainment will showcase a group of Welsh MCs.  

The vibe at the end will be one of joy and appreciation; there will be snacks and drinks as well as a creative wall encouraging people to feedback on the piece and hopefully to sign up for the next stage of Next Up.
