Platfform’s Hip-hop Theatre Academy is ready to return, are you ready to join our movement?
Whether you’re an actor, lyricist, DJ, dancer, artist, MC or beat-boxer, Next Up Academy is your platform to hone your skills and be part of growing collective of young people using Hip-hop skills to tell stories that matter. If you’re about creative expression, this is your stage.
What’s Involved?
Stage One:
- Weekly sessions diving into the fundamental skills of breakin’, graffiti, MC-ing and DJ-ing, as well as how to incorporate the foundations and culture of hip-hop into a theatre performance
- Acting workshops to level up your performance skills with live script readings straight from young writers and directors
Stage Two:
- Weekly rehearsals with a theatre director, plus special sessions with movement and MC practitioners
- A two day rehearsal intensive in the performance space
- The chance to be part of the first ever Next Up Academy theatre production, an exciting three-way collab between Valleys Kids, Wales Millennium Centre and students from Harris Academy Peckham
Who is this for?
Aged 14–25? This is for you. Next Up Academy is for anyone who wants to push the boundaries of storytelling through hip-hop and theatre.
So whether you’re a theatre lover who wants to mix up your craft, or a Hip-hop die-hard who wants a new platform to collaborate and tell your story on stage, Next Up Academy has got you.
Timeline:
Weekly sessions – Tuesdays from 9 September to 31 March 6–8pm
2-day intensive – 17 and 18 February 10am–5pm
