REMEMBRANCE · COMMUNITY · HOPE
Marking the 60 years since the Aberfan disaster, this concert is anchored by Paul Mealor’s newly commissioned From Darkness into Light: a concert requiem for hope, bringing together Mark Lewis Jones, Aberfan Schools Choirs, Ynysowen Male Voice Choir, and the BBC National Chorus of Wales in an act of remembrance. Framing this centrepiece is music that moves from urgency to hope: Anna Clyne’s This Moment flashes with restless energy; Haydn’s E minor “Mourning” Symphony (No. 44) drives forward with fierce intensity; Mozart offers weight and luminous calm in the Andante cantabile from the “Jupiter”; and Vaughan Williams’ Whitman-inspired Toward the Unknown Region sets out on a searching journey towards the horizon.
