Are you 16-25 and ready to level up your photography skills? After a brilliant first year, Explore Photography is back - and this time, it’s all about discovering your style, building confidence, and creating work that tells your story.
Across six free weekly sessions, you’ll learn the foundations of photography, experiment with creative techniques, and develop your own mini project - all in a supportive space led by filmmaker and photographer Pierre Simon. You’ll finish the course with a live exhibition at Wales Millennium Centre, showcasing your work to friends, family, and fellow creatives.

A hands on, creative journey designed to help you explore your environment, sharpen your eye, and build a body of work you’re proud of.
You’ll:
• Learn photography fundamentals - composition, lighting, framing, and visual storytelling
• Experiment with different styles - portrait, event, editorial, documentary
• Develop your own project - from first ideas to final edit
• Build confidence through feedback, collaboration, and guided practice
• Showcase your work in a group exhibition at WMC
Meet your Facilitator: Pierre Simon
Pierre S. Gashagaza is a film director and photographer from Newport whose work is rooted in social realism, urban environments, and the lived experiences of the diaspora. Through documentary photography and portraiture, Pierre captures powerful stories of community, identity, and everyday life - and he’ll guide you through finding your own visual voice.
Your 6 Week Creative Journey
Session 1 - The World of Photography
Explore the basics, discover creative pathways, and start shooting your environment.
Session 2 - Explore Your Niche
Try portrait, event, or editorial photography and begin shaping your direction.
Session 3 - Explore Your Art
Experiment with style, light, perspective, and creative techniques - plus a guest speaker.
Session 4 - Sharp Shooters
Plan your project, build a shot list, and begin creating your exhibition work.
Session 5 - Constructive Criticism
Learn to edit, sequence, and refine your images through group feedback.
Session 6 - Tying Loose Ends
Final edits, captions, layout - and preparing your exhibition for launch.
Final Outcome
You’ll create a small body of photographic work responding to “Exploring Your Environment”, interpreted in your own style. The course ends with a public exhibition at Wales Millennium Centre - a chance to celebrate your achievements and share your perspective with the world.
