Aged 16 – 25 and want to get creative? Curious about visual art?
This free 6-week course from Platfform is for you!
Led by artist Cara Walker, you’ll try out different art forms like clay making, painting and print work. Join us to discover snapshots of major art movements alongside insights into Cardiff’s art scene. Over a series of evening sessions and a one-day intensive, you’ll develop your own artistic practice and use your newly acquired skills to create art from found objects, which is a great way to experiment, recycle and discover your own style.
All participants will have the opportunity to become Platfform members, with access to exclusive trips, events and free access to our spaces and equipment.
As a special opportunity at the end of this course, all artists will be invited to connect with our young spoken word group to create a new artwork inspired by their poetry. As part of this, you’ll get access to studio space in Wales Millennium Centre and get to exhibit your work in Stiwdio Scratch with an exclusive showcase and exhibition launch alongside the poets in October.
About the Facilitator: Cara Walker
My artistry is rooted in an interest in the people we see every day but know nothing about, what stories do they carry that are often untold. I express this through curating, facilitating, painting; I have created tapestries out of hospitality uniforms; painted portraits on slate; taught numerous art lessons. Beyond creation, I am passionate about preserving the arts and ensuring that it is an accessible space for diverse voices, striving to contribute to a more inclusive and representative art world where all stories can be heard and celebrated.
