FRAMERATE: Pulse of the Earth is the first in the FRAMERATE series. The work reveals alterations caused by human-centred industry and the rhythms of the natural world; destruction, extraction, habitation, construction, harvests, growth, and erosion. Three-dimensional stories unfold across this multichannel installation. Hypnotic imagery surrounds you. Audio shifts through the space. Spring breaks, summer sun shines through the leaves as they turn amber and fall a second later. In a quaint English garden a pumpkin grows. A thousand tonnes of steel are crushed. Sand ebbs and flows while a cliff retreats. 268 cows are milked. 519 pints are drunk.
Created from thousands of daily 3D time-lapse scans of British landscapes, the work observes change on a scale impossible to see with the lens of traditional cameras.
This is not just an artwork. The data collected and presented by FRAMERATE is ground-breaking scientific research, containing empirical, measurable facts published that have since been published in NATURE.

ScanLAB Projects is an artist-led studio exploring the world through machine vision technologies, founded in 2010 by Matt Shaw (b 1983) and William Trossell (b 1985).
Known for their evocative and ambitious body of precision-crafted physical and digital artworks which reveal and reflect on beauty, fragility, and resilience, ScanLAB invites and challenges us to explore our collective future. Their groundbreaking use of 3D scanning and definitive pointcloud aesthetic has taken them around the world making a seminal body of work that reflects on society and the natural world: from former concentration camps to melting arctic ice, from Stephen Hawking’s office to cacti blooms in the Sonoran Desert.
This artistic practice resolves in a series of physical and digital works which thrive at the creative edge of a tool’s ability. Their aesthetic provides new ways to see, understand, and feel beyond the capabilities of our eyes or traditional cameras. What can I expect from the experience?
Pulse of The Earth is an immersive experience where you will have the opportunity to witness time‑lapse 3D scans of landscapes captured over long periods. These sequences show changes that happen too slowly or subtly to notice with the naked eye or a normal camera. The imagery is accompanied by beautifully designed sound.
How long does the experience last?
The experience is 25 minutes long but played on a loop, you're welcome to stay as long as you like.
What equipment is necessary to participate in the experience?
No equipment is necessary, this is a projection experience.
Is there staff on hand throughout?
Yes, our Bocs staff will be on hand to guide and support throughout your entire experience to our Bocs venue.
Is the experience accessible to those with reduced mobility?
