Calling all educators working with curious, creative learners! Join Presenter Rachel Leach, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Conductor Ellie Slorach for an inspiring, curriculum-friendly schools’ concert exploring Myths and Legends through music.
This FREE, interactive concert is made for primary-aged children and is a fantastic first step into the world of orchestral music. With a lively mix of orchestral pieces and much-loved classical favourites inspired by myths and legends, pupils will come face to face with brave heroes, dastardly villains and magical creatures… all brought thrillingly to life by a full symphony orchestra!
The concert combines guided listening with opportunities for independent discovery, helping students develop listening skills, musical vocabulary and confidence. Each class will also have the opportunity to learn and perform songs alongside the orchestra, supported by high-quality online resources and preparatory workshops.
Designed with primary-aged pupils in mind, the concert is particularly suitable for children aged around 7–8 and above and is not intended for secondary schools. We warmly welcome special education settings and home-educated pupils, and the relaxed, inclusive atmosphere supports a wide range of learning needs.
Ideal for students who are new to orchestral music, this concert is a shared experience that brings learning to life, sparking curiosity, imagination and creativity while giving pupils the chance to experience the thrill of a live orchestra.
The Good to Know Stuff!
To help us create the best experience for everyone, BBC NOW can welcome up to two classes per school (around 60 pupils), along with accompanying adults. We recommend one teacher or guardian for every 10 -12 pupils. As we’re working in a smaller hall and hosting only one concert this year, we’re unable to accommodate larger groups or last-minute changes, and we really appreciate your understanding.
To book tickets, please call Wales Millennium Centre box office on the phone from 11am–4pm Monday to Friday on 029 2063 6464
Home-educated pupils are very welcome to attend with a parent or guardian, and BSL interpretation will be available on stage left.
This is a relaxed, inclusive concert with no flashing lights or sudden loud bangs. A quiet space will be available just outside the hall, and step-free access is provided for wheelchair users.
On booking, you will need to supply a contact name, name of the school or education establishment, email and phone number.
Once booked, we’ll send full practical details, including coach parking, health & safety information, and classroom activities. Schools will also be contacted to arrange in-school workshops to help pupils get even more out of the experience.
Please note that the concert will be filmed for future broadcast on the BBC NOW website. A dedicated non-filming seating area will be available, and staff will be happy to help on arrival. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
