Aged 16-25 with something to say?
After an explosive first year in 2025, Explore Spoken Word from Platfform is back and it’s your chance to turn ideas, stories and opinions into powerful spoken word. And this year we’re partnering with National Museum Cardiff and CELF: National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales in an exciting new collaboration.
This free 8-week course will help you build confidence, sharpen your writing and develop your performance skills in a welcoming and supportive space, led by writer, director and performer Tia-zakura Camilleri. You’ll finish the 8 weeks with a live spoken word showcase at Wales Millennium Centre, sharing your work with friends, family and other young creatives.
What to expect?
Across the course, you’ll:
- Learn about the fundamentals of poetic form
- Explore rhythm, flow and performance techniques
- Try out Tia’s unique ‘flowetry’ style
- Write and develop your own spoken word pieces
- Connect with other young writers and performers
And with our collaboration with CELF: National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales at National Museum Cardiff, you'll explore artworks from the Museum’s collection, pick a piece that speaks to you, and transform it into a brand new poem.
This is also your chance to learn more about the spoken word scene across Cardiff, and how to turn your passion into a career.
No experience? This course is built for everyone, from first-time writers to those writers or poets looking to try something new. We’re looking for curiosity, creativity and a willingness to give it go!
About the Artist:
Tia-zakura is a published writer, theatre-maker and spoken-word poet from Cardiff. In collaboration with Poetic Unity, Tia runs a quarterly spoken-word night, Poetic Wales, aimed at connecting the London and Cardiff poetry scenes.
