IMMERSION | MOVEMENT | PRESENCE
Sound is never still in this performance; it drifts, pulses and gathers around you.
Conceived by Daniel Pioro, the concert invites listeners to move freely through the space: to walk, change seats, or sit among the musicians as the music unfolds. The focus is not on passive listening, but on presence — on how sound is felt as much as heard. Steve Reich’s Duet for Two Violins and Strings opens the programme, with Pioro and BBC National Orchestra of Wales Leader Lesley Hatfield as soloists, its shifting patterns precise yet mesmerising. Music by pioneering electronic composer Daphne Oram deepens the sense of exploration, while Terry Riley’s iconic In C forms the centrepiece — a living, breathing work that reconfigures itself with every moment.
