The term watershed is used to describe the time period after which, adult content can be shown.

Adult content is usually defined as images or language depicting or referring to explicit sexual content, graphic violence, drug use or the use of strong language.

In broadcasting the watershed is set at 9pm and all programmes have to adhere to this policy.

The Centre recognises that a watershed policy applied to all public and front of house spaces enables us to honour our duty of care towards children, young people and vulnerable adults who visit us.

We also recognise our responsibility to make sure that all reasonable steps are taken to ensure that all visitors are afforded appropriate protection.

We'll make every effort to prevent the use of material that may be deemed inappropriate which is programmed prior to the 9pm watershed; however there may be circumstances that are beyond our control.

Signage will be displayed and announcement made if we consider the material maybe perceived as offensive or inappropriate by some audience members.

In some cases performances or events may be ticketed with appropriate age guidance clearly indicated online and in marketing material.

However, audience sensibilities and standards vary widely and performances must reflect fairly and accurately peoples different experience, ways of using language and realities of life.

Because children’s sensibilities vary as widely as adults, parents, carers and guardians share in the responsibility for assessing whether programme content is suitable for their children, based on their expectations of that content.
