Through a variety of projects, we help raise the aspirations of young people in Wales whatever their circumstances. Our projects help the next generation unlock their potential and develop creative skills essential to their personal, social, and economic wellbeing.

Radio Plattform is our youth-led radio station and training programme that gives young people a platform to build their confidence, find their voice and express themselves.

Over the course of seven weeks, participants learn about all aspects of radio production and present their own live radio shows on topics that are important to them.

The programme helps build skills for employment, further training and personal development and is accredited in partnership with Promo Cymru and The Prince's Trust.

In 2019-20, over 200 young people took part in Radio Platfform: 49 participants for the accredited training; 142 in outreach training; and 18 created and broadcasted shows as part of our Radio Platfform family. Currently we broadcast 24 shows a week, with an average of 1,250 listens a month. We now have two radio stations, in Cardiff and Porth.

Creative Voice is a unique six-week programme offering young people a platform to explore their interests, express themselves, build creative confidence and share their narrative through practical learning.

From creative writing to filmmaking and radio production, the course provides the space to learn, make and create, in line with our goal to raise the aspirations of every young person in Wales.

Together Stronger is a partnership between Valleys Kids and Wales Millennium Centre, designed to provide creative opportunities for young people in the south Wales valleys.

11–25-year-olds are invited to join taster workshops for drama, singing, circus skills and more; work behind the scenes on professional theatre productions such as our Powerful Interventions programme during Festival of Voice and meet with industry professionals during our free Life Hack event in Porth.

Audiences and communities are at the heart of everything we do. We work to ensure that anyone and everyone can access our shows and activity through community ticketing, accessible performances and by developing work for new audiences.

Through our community ticketing scheme, we connect with those who wouldn’t normally engage in the arts and offer low price tickets. We do this by working closely with local communities, partner organisations and our community ambassadors.

We give communities the opportunity to plan and curate their own events in our public spaces and to perform at signature events like Festival of Voice. We give them a platform to tell stories about themselves, their histories, and cultures.

Throughout the year we also host community-led exhibition projects, bringing people together and offering them an opportunity to present their creative work.

An exhibition for Black History Month by Cardiff Youth Council

Voices of Change, was our community exhibition, which gave everybody an opportunity to present artwork in any form, reflecting their hope for the future after the pandemic. The exhibition filled our public spaces in August 2021.

As well as presenting and curating the best touring work, we create our own productions, festivals and events which entertain, stimulate, and inspire our audiences at home and further afield. In our mission to nurture talent, we also offer a platform to local artists to support their journey in the industry.

We make our own thought-provoking theatre productions celebrating Wales in all its diversity. So far, we have successfully produced/co-produced 16 shows and we have a feast of mid-to large-scale productions in development to share with audiences over the next five years.

We have created a supportive environment for artists to explore their ideas, test concepts and create new culture-defining work. We also provide hands-on training associated with our productions which develops skills for work and clear career pathways for new voices and young people in Wales.
