A new grime musical written by and starring Connor Allen.

The Making of a Monster was an autobiographical journey into Connor’s teenage years as he makes a decision that will change the fabric of who he is, and the man he will become. It was performed in our Weston Studio in November 2022.
"Growing up I was too Black for my white friends and too white for my Black friends so the constant thread was where do I fit in? If you mix black with white you get grey and that's the area I felt I was in a lot of the time"

The creative team took an extremely personal and complex story and created a high-energy grime-theatre mash-up that used live music, movement and multimedia to immerse the audience in Connor's childhood memories.

This was a unique opportunity to share how music is essential to our lives and our own personal makeup, allowing the audience to hear a mixtape of truths and emotions.

Find out more about how music and a longing for identity influenced The Making of a Monster.

To accompany this journey, we collaborated with Connor Allen and Sugar Creative to create a new immersive augmented reality (AR) experience, The Museum of Nothingness, allowing visitors to step into Connor’s mind.
