A story of brotherhood, love and positivity, this communal virtual reality experience is inspired by the stories of Hussein Amiri and his family, who were forced to flee Afghanistan in 2000.
Created in collaboration with Hamed and Hessam Amiri to honour their brother’s incredible life, Ripples of Kindness invites small groups to share in the positive impact that Hussein had on everyone around him, from Afghanistan to Wales.
The experience is centred around the sofra – the living/dining space within the family home where the three brothers and their parents would meet, talk and exchange stories over food. The Amiris welcome you to join them at the sofra to virtually meet them and some of the people who came to their aid when they needed it most.
Become immersed in an ever-changing virtual and sensory world which combines text, performance, verbatim recordings, imagery and sound, and truly experience the Amiri family’s stories.

This free virtual reality experience accompanies our stage production of The Boy with Two Hearts – in the Dance House from 12 – 17 September

Running in 30 minute slots
Running time: The experience lasts 15 minutes. Please arrive 5 minutes before your allotted time for a health and safety briefing and equipment setup.
Age Guidance: Ripples of Kindness is suitable for those aged 13+ due to the themes of displacement, death and loss explored in the experience and the size of the Oculus Quest 2 headsets and closed back headphones. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
Access: Closed captions are included as part of the presentation. The experience is accessible for wheelchair users.
Warnings: Most people do not experience any negative reactions to Virtual Reality (VR). However, VR may be disorientating for individuals who are neurodiverse, have hearing or sight impairments, or experience vertigo, epilepsy, dizziness, seizures, motion sickness or fainting. If you are pregnant or have a pacemaker, please consult with your GP before taking part. The VR experience explores themes relating to displacement, death and loss which some people may find upsetting.
What is a virtual reality experience?
Virtual Reality (VR) is the use of computer technology to create a simulated world. Guests wear a headset with integrated over the ear headphones.
What should I expect?
Ripples of Kindness is a 15-minute animation, combining sounds and documentary with cutting edge technology. It invites audiences to sit with animated versions of the Amiri family as they tell their incredible story of fleeing Afghanistan in 2000. The experience was created in collaboration with brothers Hamed and Hessam Amiri.
Do I need to book?
You can pre-book tickets to this free experience to guarantee a space, or just turn up on the day.
Last admission is 7pm Mon – Sat, 4pm Sun.
Should I watch The Boy with Two Hearts first?
You don’t need to have watched The Boy with Two Hearts to understand this accompanying experience.
However, if you are attending a performance of The Boy with Two Hearts, you may want to wait until you’ve seen the show as it explores and reveals some of the Amiri family’s story.
Do I need to bring anything?
Spectacles may be worn under the VR headset however it may be more comfortable to wear contact lenses or go without your glasses for the experience.
What are the health and safety measures?
We thoroughly clean and sanitise all equipment, including headsets and headphones, with hospital-grade antibacterial wipes and a UV machine before each use. We request that you use the hand sanitiser provided on arrival.
Babies in slings are not permitted inside the experience.
Any guests arriving for the experience who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to take part.
