Wondering how to keep the kids entertained this Easter? Here’s five fantastic ideas to keep the whole family occupied: from indoor Easter eggs hunts to virtual tours and free films...
1. Enjoy a Night at the Theatre
Bring all the magic of the stage to your living room: as well as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s weekly blockbuster musical uploads, your family can tune into the new musical of The Wind In The Willows for a small rental fee.
Or, be transported by the dazzling story of I Wish I Was A Mountain – an understated fairy-tale co-produced by Cardiff-based company Theatr Iolo, that’s available to watch for free.
Sadly we had to cancel the performances of A Monster Calls but the fantastic film version is available now on BBC iPlayer for the next month.
2. Get Back to Nature
Staying indoors doesn’t mean you need to miss out on Wales’ springtime lambs. Folly Farm’s live BarnCam lets you see what the resident sheep, goats and donkeys get up to on a day-to-day basis.
You can even take a walk on the wild side with the farm’s penguins, giraffes and lions, or venture further afield with Edinburgh Zoo’s webcams to spot some pandas and tigers.
3. A Daily Dose of Science
Techniquest, our Cardiff Bay neighbour, will keep your science enthusiasts fascinated with daily 'demo videos'. With tutorials ranging from how to make a lava lamp to liquid nitrogen tea parties, just remember that some experiments are safer to try at home than others!
Or, if your young scientists are more into dinosaurs than dynamite, then why not take them on a VIP virtual tour of the Natural History Museum? You can wander the empty halls and explore the collections of this world-famous research centre for free.
4. Get active
Work off your little ones’ unused energy with Sadler’s Wells’ Family Dance Workshops, aimed at children aged 2 – 6 years, or run away and join the circus with free virtual classes for adults and children from Cardiff’s No Fit State.
Learn to juggle, perfect your handstand, improve your strength, and more; the class schedule is updated on a weekly basis so there’s plenty of variety.
Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures will also be launching an Easter programme of videos, teaching families dance movements that they can learn at home.
5. Crafts and Clues
We've got a crafty challenge for you. We'd like you to design an Easter egg using the shape of our iconic building.
Let your imagination run wild - this is for kids and grown-ups! Choose any theme you like. Take a photo of your masterpiece and if you're able to - share on Twitter and tag us @theCentre so we see it. The best ones will be featured here.
Fans of Welsh musician, Gruff Rhys and his album Candylion with it's iconic artwork by Pete Fowler will love this. Download a cut-out Candylion model to colour in with the kids (or not) and share with Gruff on Twitter.
For some theatrical arts and crafts, try resources created by Disney On Stage: activities include mask-making, set-designing and storytelling, all inspired by Disney musicals such as Aladdin, Mary Poppins and The Lion King.
Lastly, why not treat the kids to a traditional Easter Egg hunt? For inspiration, you can follow BBC Good Food’s instructions for an indoor hunt, suitable for houses of all shapes and sizes.
