Imagine being looked at but not seen; heard but ignored.
In this gritty applied theatre production, Behind the Label is back to share more real-life stories from society’s invisible people.
Created over an 18-week theatre skills programme with Theatre versus Oppression and Wales Millennium Centre, Behind the Label is produced and performed by a group of real people, not actors, who have experienced misfortune – whether trauma, addiction, homelessness or mental health problems – and been labelled by society.
They’re ready to tell their stories, strip back the labels and share their personal journeys full of twists and turns, dead ends and new directions.
Come and hear the whole story.
A Theatre versus Oppression project, established in 2016, in partnership with Wales Millennium Centre and The Wallich. Empowering vulnerable adults who have been stigmatised by society to find their voice and fight for their right to be heard.
I find it’s very beneficial for everyone to take part! It’s a great opportunity not to waste and I am grateful for everything. Meeting new people, I’m lucky to be involved!Slim - 2018 participant
Everybody needs a hobby, not a habit. My creativity and art helped me kick the habit into a hobby. Behind the Label is here to show people we can get past our pasts to move on to a better future by telling our stories through our own words, our own voice. No more labels, just ownership of our lives – past, present, future.Heidi - 2016 participant and 2018 peer mentor
