Using the music of Miles Davis as a reference point, the Gethin Liddington/Ian Poole Quartet will explore the rich melting pot of styles and influences that came together to help create the sound of jazz in 1950’s and beyond.
In the early 1950’s, Miles Davis created one of the most renowned albums ever, Kind Of Blue. However, by drawing on new musicians and styles, his sound had changed dramatically by the end of the decade. The quartet will take inspiration from this musical journey to present an evening influenced by many of the great composers in jazz history.
Comprised of some of Cardiff's finest musicians, the quartet features Gethin Liddington on trumpet and flugelhorn, Dave Jones on piano, Ashley John Long on bass and Ian Poole on drums.
By playing some familiar tunes with arrangements inspired by Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Lee Morgan and Terrence Blanchard they produce a tasteful blend of soul, funk and bebop. The range of material moves from the 1950’s up to the present day.
