Free: Race Council Cymru presents Young People the Time is Now

28 October 2022

Race Council Cymru present a free evening of music featuring some of the best Black talent coming out of Wales.

Afro Cluster

AFRO CLUSTER is a Cardiff-born collective inspired by the legacy of West-African funk/Afrobeat and golden age Hip-Hop. The creative ethos behind their work is to instigate love and hope in an increasingly hostile world. Across their catalogue you will hear strong rhythms and jazzy refrains emboldened by motivational lyrics penned and delivered by emcee Skunkadelic.

They’ve been well received on the road at prime festival slots in the UK including Glastonbury, WOMAD, Green Man, Boomtown and Wilderness. They’ve also picked up support shows with the likes of Gilles Peterson, Hot 8 Brass, People Under The Stairs and Ibibio Sound Machine.

The band’s debut album ‘The Reach’ dropped in February 2021, exploring the quandary of human nature, our relationships, our struggles and the current state of the music industry, with a focus on how a positive mindset and unity can help us find solutions.

Dabs Calypso Trio

DABS CALYPSO TRIO is led by Dabs Bonner, a musician based in Cardiff. The band play a range of music from the Caribbean and share stories and smiles from across the islands.

Ify Iwobi

IFY IWOBI is a Swansea-born, pianist, composer, songwriter, and producer. Ify has just broken a record as the first Black Welsh female artist of Nigerian heritage to have 6 consecutive singles to be A-Listed by BBC Radio Wales.

Baby Queens

BABY QUEENS are a family affair (two sisters, two cousins and an adopted sister) from Cardiff. Their music is a melting pot of influences from rock to hip hop, reggae to RnB. The band are currently working on their long awaited follow up to their Welsh Music Prize nominated self-titled debut album.

Anwar Siziba

ANWAR SIZIBA is an RnB, Soul, Hip hop and Afrobeat singer-songwriter originally from Essex. A self-producing artist, Anwar recently released the EP Afro Love, influenced by his African roots.
