Flight of the Phoenix is the world premiere of an innovative, multi-disciplinary performance piece that weaves music and storytelling together inspired by the life and legacy of Abey Mirza, a renowned Hazara female vocalist from Afghanistan, reimagined through the voice and style of Elaha Soroor (The Boy with Two Hearts).
The performance will feature a unique artistic team, including Elaha Soroor, Joost Hendrickx on percussion, Josh Middleton on keyboard and members of the Oasis One World Choir. Each artist brings their unique talents and perspectives to the project, creating a rich tapestry of sound and narrative.
Intertwining with the musical performance, Hanan Issa, the National Poet of Wales 2022, will narrate tales of resilience and survival. Her storytelling will further enhance the audience's understanding of the challenges faced by female artists throughout history. The stories, like the music, will be inspired by Abe Mirza's life but will also incorporate broader themes of resilience and rebirth, akin to the phoenix's journey.
