Over the past few months Cardiff and Vale College (CAVC) have been running regular courses here with junior apprentices, to explore the world of technical and theatre, working on sound, lighting, staging and more.

Twice a week, CAVC run a workshop day and a theory day aimed at giving the young people involved,  a greater understanding of the way theatre works, and the technical skills required to work within this exciting industry.

And who knows, one day they might apply to become one our own technical apprentices and go on to develop their careers here with us!

Currently the course runs for two years, starting with Year 10, which is graded and accompanies grades towards their CAVC course.

We've been working closely with CAVC to create the best possible experience to encourage young people wanting to pursue a career in technical theatre, or to simply learn more about the creative sector.

So far this term, the apprentices have been learning how to create and produce an event. They've been visiting various departments to learn the necessary skills: working with different artists, creating promotional marketing material, filming and documenting their work and using interview techniques picked up during their Radio Platfform training last term.

The apprentices showcased all their hard work by producing a live event here on 8 April in our Glanfa Foyer.
