David and Philippa Seligman

Remembering David Seligman

We're deeply saddened to learn of the passing of David Seligman OBE FRWCMD.

David and his late wife Philippa supported Wales Millennium Centre from the very start of our journey and shared a great passion for the arts and supporting young talent in Wales.

David was a keen philanthropist and supported the arts in Wales for over four decades. He had a passion for nurturing creativity amongst young people and expanding their access to the arts and was involved with many arts organisations in Cardiff to help achieve this - including Wales Millennium Centre.

Through his most recent donation, David supported the establishment of our youth-led radio station and training programme, Radio Platfform, which continues to instil confidence, offer a platform for expression, and build skills for employment and further training for young people aged 16-25.

David was a member of our Chair’s Circle; a group like-minded individuals who share a passion for the arts and a belief in the importance of our work as the national arts centre, and who play an integral role in funding our projects and productions. The impact of this kind of philanthropy is life changing.

He was also instrumental in helping establish Wales Millennium Centre as a leading performing arts centre at the start of our journey, contributing legal assistance, advocacy and finance during the start-up phase.

In recent correspondence with David, he shared how delighted he was to hear of our re-opening and was looking forward to seeing the changes to the room he named back in 2005, as we transform it into a space for young people to develop their creativity and skills. We are delighted to have David’s legacy live on through the Seligman Room.

We are immensely grateful to David for his support over the years and are very proud to have known him. Our thoughts are with David’s loved ones at this sad time.
