Theatre Makers: Physical Theatre

Ages 14 – 25

8 April – 20 May 2024

Wales Millennium Centre

Want to learn about physical theatre and explore your creativity through a devised piece based on Shakespeare's iconic characters and scenes?

The course will introduce you to the concept of physical theatre and its use of movement, gesture and expression to convey meaning. It will also help you develop new skills such as adapting text with movement, working in an ensemble, puppetry and devising.

You will take part in various group activities and exercises, and you will focus on developing your own ideas and voice through devising to explore your own creative potential. The class will work together to develop their ideas into a devised piece of physical theatre.

At the end of the course you will have gained confidence in yourself and your abilities and will have had opportunities to express yourself creatively in a safe and supportive environment. You will also have developed a sense of ownership and pride in your work, feeling that your voice has been heard, and that you have collaborated with your peers.

Who is teaching the course?

Ellie Evans is an actor, theatre maker and facilitator based in Swansea. She graduated from East 15 Acting School in 2021. Ellie is a regular director with West Glamorgan Youth Theatre Company and has devised, created and facilitated many projects with young people including Grand Ambition’s The Actors Group. Ellie is one of the co-founders of Dauntless Evolution, a theatre company that debuted their first show Here and Now in April 2023 supported by the Arts Council of Wales. They are currently in the Research and Development stage for their second show. Ellie has worked as a movement director, deviser and director for numerous projects in south Wales over the past year. She has a real passion for creating exciting theatre with young people and facilitating an ensemble.
