Biig Piig

Biig Piig

Even behind closed doors, 2020 proved a breakthrough twelve months for BIIG PIIG’s confessional, genre-fluid modern pop.

An instantly identifiable voice, Biig Piig sings in both English and Spanish while blending a global mix of influences including hip-hop, R&B, dance music and stripped-back soul.

Jess Smyth aka Biig Piig was born in Ireland but spent her formative years in Spain before moving to Shepherd's Bush. Despite speaking English at home, Biig Piig initially only knew how to read and write in Spanish; a rocky transition through which eventually she found her people in London music collective NiNE8, which she co-founded alongside Lava La Rue.

Despite being in her early twenties, Biig Piig possesses the kind of insouciant wisdom usually reserved for people beyond her years. Her songs offer candid, slow-moving vignettes of young love, identity and the general unease of navigating modern life. In an increasingly fast-paced world, listening to Biig Piig feels like a sigh of relief.

“Biig Piig is the indie queen of reinvention.”
