Death Songbook: Brett Anderson and Charles Hazlewood with Paraorchestra + Gwenno

29 October 2022

Suede frontman BRETT ANDERSON, CHARLES HAZLEWOOD, PARAORCHESTRA + special guest vocalist GWENNO come together for a live performance of 'Death Songbook'.

The exquisite anthology features music by icons such as Echo and the Bunnymen, Skeeter Davis, Japan, David Bowie/Jacques Brel, and Suede.

For this performance, Brett Anderson, Charles Hazlewood (read our interview with him on the project) and Paraorchestra will be joined by Welsh musician Gwenno, whose latest album Tresor (written almost entirely in Cornish) was recently nominated for the Mercury Prize.

This rich set – amplified by the diversity and virtuosity of Paraorchestra musicians in new arrangements by composer Charlotte Harding - features delicate new versions of songs about death, the death of love, of loss, and ultimately of transcendence.

It reminds us that music is our greatest friend in bleak times; inviting us to crouch around a candle and meet our sorrow head-on, comforting, nourishing, and uplifting.

Opening the evening, there will be a performance of Male Voice Choir classics from the combined choir of Cwmdare Voices and Pelenna Valley Male Voice Choir.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the BSL interpreter due to attend this performance has had to withdraw, and regrettably the show will no longer be BSL interpreted. Ticket holders have been contacted via email.

For D/deaf and hearing-impaired audience members, we have prepared lyric booklets which will be available to collect from box office on the evening of the performance.
