Kick off the new year in the right way by booking tickets to see one of our fantastic shows. From musicals to drama, dance to opera, we're bound to have something you'll enjoy in our twentieth year. 

DRAMA 

In May Michael Sheen will play the title role in the National Theatre and Wales Millennium Centre co-production Nye, a surreal and spectacular journey through the life and legacy of the man who transformed the welfare state.

MUSICALS

Originally staged by London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, the reimagined production of Jesus Christ Superstar won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and is coming to our Donald Gordon Theatre this month.

Fearless, shameless and alluring, the award-winning production of Bonnie & Clyde has garnered a mass following, much like the infamous pair themselves, and now they are set to take Cardiff by storm in March.

Come From Away shares the incredible real-life story of the 7,000 air passengers from all over the world who were grounded in Canada during the wake of 9/11.

Wicked is coming back in October complete with all the spectacle and magic that make this “truly outstanding production” (South Wales Evening Post) such an unforgettable and unmissable experience.

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s multi award-winning cultural phenomenon Hamilton is coming for Christmas 2024. The score blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway.

Family Shows

The empowering pop musical Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World comes to our Donald Gordon Theatre this month, based on the popular children’s book by Suffragette relative Kate Pankhurst.

Music, laughter, rhymes, rhythms and repetitions together with puppetry, paint, water and mud make We’re Going on a Bear Hunt the perfect theatrical outing for all young families.

In March join the Heelers in Bluey’s Big Play, their first live theatre show made just for you. This is Bluey as you’ve never seen it before.

Dance

Matthew Bourne and his New Adventures Company return in March with Edward Scissorhands, the witty, bittersweet story of an incomplete boy left alone in a strange new world.

Following their knock-out Peaky Blinders tour, Death Trap is your next chance to see Rambert’s brilliant and daring dancers in two short pieces created for them by Ben Duke.

Opera

In their Spring Season, Welsh National Opera take you back to school with a brand-new production of Mozart’s comic opera Così fan tutte aka The School for Lovers.

Whether an opera enthusiast or curious to give it a go, take a seat for Opera Favourites on 5 March and join WNO on a journey through some of the best-known pieces in the operatic world.

Britten’s magnificently atmospheric opera Death in Venice comes to life in a new production from WNO, creating images of ravishing beauty, as well as exploring the grotesque hidden beneath the search for the sublime.

Comedy

Following their multi award-winning sell-out success with The Play That Goes Wrong and the BBC TV series The Goes Wrong Show, Mischief return this month with the West End smash hit Peter Pan Goes Wrong.

In March for one night only we have Buffy Revamped. Funny, satirical and bursting with 90s pop-culture references, it’s the perfect parody for Buffy aficionados and those who never enrolled at Sunnydale High alike.

MC Hammersmith is a multi-award-winning freestyle rap comedian, coming to Cabaret in May. He is the world’s leading gangsta rapper to ever emerge from the ghetto of middle-class west London.

One nighters

In February meet the real life Carrie Bradshaw! Candace Bushnell takes us on a whirlwind tour of New York City, sharing her remarkable philosophy through stories of fashion, literature... and, of course, sex.

On 10 March discover why David Suchet is renowned for not only becoming the role, but also taking on the personalities of some of television, film and theatre’s most fascinating characters in Poirot and More: A Retrospective.

If you missed out on tickets to see the man himself in Cardiff, or just fancy a preview beforehand, on 23 April join us for The Billy Joel Songbook, the greatest love letter ever to one of the most iconic musicians of the 20th Century.

We also have two incredible concerts for musical theatre fans – the official Disney legend Lea Salonga is bringing her extraordinary talent to our Donald Gordon Theatre on 25 June with her tour Stage, Screen & Everything In Between, and Carrie Hope Fletcher – Love Letters will see the star explore all forms of love, showcased through a composition of stunning musical theatre classics.
