NEW PARTICIPANTS STILL WELCOME - contact education@wmc.org.uk

Next Up Academy is a ground-breaking project that infuses elements of hip hop and grime with theatre.

Next Up Academy at Wales Millennium Centre is a collaborative project in partnership with Fio working with professional emcees, DJs, artistic directors, breakdancers, graffiti artists, and scriptwriters to produce a performance piece exploring issues that are important to young people.

Over the course of 21 sessions, young people will have the opportunity to engage in masterclasses with the different practitioners to elevate their skills within different art forms associated with Hip hop and grime culture culminating in a performance in our Weston Studio at Wales Millennium Centre on 5 April 2024.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for young creatives, beat-boxers, singers, rappers, dancers and actors aged between 16-25 to join the team, whether an established artist or a new emerging artist.

We’re working to ensure our creative learning programmes represent a diverse range of people and therefore are particularly interested in hearing from:

  • Young Emerging MOBO Artists
  • Young people of Global Majority
  • Anyone from any other marginalised groups

Sita Thomas and Tia Camilleri – Co-Directors

Tumi Williams – Producer/Emcee
